Jannik Sinner showed resilience and composure to book his place in the third round of the Madrid Open, overcoming Benjamin Bonzi in three sets (6–7, 6–1, 6–4).

Despite entering as world number one, Sinner was tested early on. The Italian failed to convert multiple break points in a tight opening set, which Bonzi edged in a tiebreak after saving a set point.

Sinner responded emphatically. Dominating the second set 6–1, he raised his level significantly, finding greater control from the baseline and consistency on serve.

The decisive moment came in the third set, where a crucial break in the fifth game proved enough. Notably, Sinner did not concede a single break point throughout the match, underlining his control in key moments.

The victory marks his 18th consecutive win in 2026, as he continues an impressive run of form on the ATP Tour.

Speaking after the match, Sinner admitted the challenge of the conditions in Madrid, highlighting the need to adapt and improve ahead of the next round.

He will now face Danish qualifier Møller as he looks to progress further in the tournament.
